Yes, a little play or flexibility in the flex pipe section of a direct-fit catalytic converter is normal and intentional.
Here’s why:-
Flex pipes are designed to absorb vibration and engine movement, especially during acceleration or when the engine rocks on its mounts.

The slight movement prevents cracking or undue stress on the exhaust system and adjacent components.

It may feel a bit loose when unmounted or even slightly shift when installed — as long as it’s securely clamped or welded at both ends, that flexibility is expected.
