A purge valve and a canister purge valve essentially refer to the same component in a vehicle's evaporative emission control system (EVAP system). The canister purge valve is responsible for controlling the flow of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister to the engine intake manifold, where they are burned. In common usage, "purge valve" is often a shorthand for "canister purge valve," and there is no functional difference between them.
