The cylinder head and the head gasket are not the same. The cylinder head is a part of the engine that sits atop the cylinders and contains components like the intake and exhaust valves, while the head gasket is a seal located between the cylinder head and the engine block. The head gasket's primary function is to ensure a tight seal to prevent leaks of coolant or engine oil into the cylinders.
