A long box, or long bed truck, is generally preferred for towing a 5th wheel because it provides better stability and maneuverability, as well as more clearance between the truck cab and the trailer during turns. However, short bed trucks can also tow 5th wheels if equipped with a sliding hitch, which helps to prevent contact between the truck and the trailer during sharp turns.
