To bleed a hydraulic valve lifter, first ensure the engine is cool and remove the valve cover. Rotate the engine manually until the lifter you want to bleed is at the base circle of the cam lobe. Then, use a pushrod to compress the lifter, allowing trapped air to escape, until oil flows steadily from the lifter, indicating that it is properly bled.
